Landing in Terceira was great! We got out of the airplane and just walked through the tarmac to the terminal.
Things are simpler here, my dad says. This was a different place, I could tell... my dad was different, lighter, more relaxed...
When we got to our family's house there were so many new people to meet, and they all were so excited to see us that they even prepared a giant feast!
Jaquinzinhos, lapas, cracas, alcatra, broa de milho, local cheeses and pastries, and so much more!!!
The food is very different here and I tried almost all of it! My favorite was the banana cake my aunt made. My dad always says great things about that aunt and her cooking. I even got to try her famous tomato soup!
The food here is so good because it's fresh. The ingredients come from the land. They have cows, there's fresh fish every day, and the eggs, the fruits and the vegetables come from my uncle's farm!
My dad used to play in this farm a lot when he was a kid too, so it was really great to do the same! Plus, I picked bananas from the tree and eggs from a chicken coup and even got to see a fountain that my great-grandfather built!
"Why are there bulls there?"
"Oh wow look at that, no pesticide no nothing!"
My great-grandfather's house is still there. My family still owns it. It has an amazing view over 'Monte Brasil'!
G: "Dad, do you know how to take the milk out of the cow?"
D: "Yes, my grandfather taught me."
G: "You do squeeze pull, squeeze pull, and you just do 2 of them, not more, right dad?"
There I saw many old pictures of family I didn't know I had and learned many stories of the past.
"More cousins!"
Later in the afternoon, my cousins came! I never new I had so many cousins! They're younger than me, but it was great playing with them. I felt I needed to protect them from the dog!
"Oh they're my cousins! Quick the dog is coming, I have to protect them!"
We played in the pool and I caught a frog that was swimming in it - I later returned it to its righteous home.
I was in love with life on the island, and my mom wanted to buy a house here. My dad laughed and said we hadn't seen anything yet, that we hadn't even left the property yet.
D: "If you like it now, just wait until tomorrow... tomorrow we're going to explore the island!"
