We were supposed to be flying to Egypt, that was our plan. Flight was scheduled, visas had been obtained, hotel was booked and activities had been planned.
We had previously had a hickup when flying from Thailand to India. Someone at the check in counter got confused with the visa documents and didn't want to let us through, but my dad solved the problem, and we got on the flight, and of course there was no problem getting into India. I don't really know what the confusion was regarding Egypt, but that didn't stop us.
These things happen sometimes when people take a lot of flights. Plans change and that's ok. Sometimes we just have to roll with it. We can only control what we can control, and those are the things we need to focus on. My dad always says:
"Don't worry, if there's a problem, it has a solution. If it didn't had a solution, it wouldn't be a problem."
So, all we had to do was to find a solution. And we did. We bought tickets to Greece and made our way to the Old Continent.
Early in the morning we visited Acropolis. It the best view! This place is so different than where we live and than the other places we have visited so far that I had many comments and questions.
"Wow that's so cool look at the view. I can see the whole entire city from here... actually dad where are the tall buildings, like in the other country (Emirates)"
"This was made out of mud and rock (it was actually emplekton). Concrete was not invented at the time"
"G: Who is that guy with the horse?
D: That's Alexander the great, a Greek king that drove Greeks to glory"
"And who is the one with the sphere and the shield? (Athena)"
Throughout the day my dad told me a lot about their history. It seems they were always being attacked by different civilizations throughout time, but it makes sense - they had a lot! And they made so many contributions to modern western culture! From medicine, to sports, to philosophy, to architecture, to so many other areas... they helped shape the world we live in now!
I don't think my dad was as excited about Europe as he was for the other places. Maybe it's because he had previously been traveling a lot around Europe, I don't know...
Still, we had fun! One afternoon we were walking around and found these picturesque streets with cool shops and restaurants. And the food was great!
"My favorite was the octopus!"
On these streets, my mom loved their accessories and their sandals - she says their sandal game is strong. I didn't care about the sandals, but I found the coolest helmets! They were just like the ones they used to fight in the old days!
I was happy to see that in Greece, they also had their own instruments and music, and we even saw some people playing on the streets.
"Mom, it's called bouzouki"
We liked it so much, we ended up having dinner with live Greek music too!
