We finally landed in Tokyo. 14h overnight flight went pretty well! I slept half of the way there, and during the other half I did my daily math and reading exercises. For writing I keep a journal of our travels. Every day I write some notes about the day before. This helps me practice and remember the most important details about our trip.
I also watched cartoons. It was fun!
I was very excited about Tokyo, but it was a good thing we took a quick nap when we got to the hotel. After lunch we started exploring Tokyo. You could tell my dad had been here many times before and knew the place pretty well. He always knew where to go, and even how the subway ticket machines works... and they were in Japanese!
Everything here is so clean, and people are mostly quiet, even kids!
"Why is everyone so quiet?"
I was usually the loudest, but I think they liked me, they kept bowing and celebrating me everywhere we went!
"Irasshaimase!"
I became really good with chopsticks here, even the real ones, not the learning ones I used before.
My dad took us to this amazing place where I found a ninja star and a karate head band. He said there's a lot of temples like this in Japan. Some people seemed to be praying, and the woman wore kimonos. Even the dogs had Japanese clothes on them!
"I found a dragon!"
We then had drinks and a snack at this place where they sit on the floor and they make you take off the shoes when you go in - Tatami. It's different than the restaurants we go to in America, but kind of like in our house - the shoes part at least.
For dinner we went to this local restaurant and ate the same food sumo wrestlers eat - Chankonabe. During dinner time, these two amazing girls were playing music - Tsugaru-jamisen. Their names were Mao and Miri Kiramuto and they were sisters. They played in a sumo ring - which is called a Dohyō.
They played very well and their instruments were made with cat skin!
