This morning we left Bangkok, hopped on an old train and went to a market. My dad always talks about the markets in Asia, and how amazing they are. He says that it's where you find the kindest people, the best fruits and the most delicious food!
There was no real train station. The train just stopped on the tracks and we hopped on. And when we got to the market, the train just slowly went through it, but the people seemed to know what to do as they quickly moved the stands out of way.
"Don't step on the break" -- said the train conductor
And then just right then and there, we hopped out and the people set their stands back up! It was amazing!
I went shopping!
"So they use the spiral and the 2 zeros? And that's 100?"
My dad had previously taught me how to read their numbers, so I knew what to do and what to get - all the rambutan I could find!
And turns out, the main market wasn't even on the tracks, it just became so big that it grew to be on the tracks as well!
We got a lot of rambutan, mangosteen, sticky rice, mango, lotus seeds, and many other treats. And we found egg man! I didn't find any scorpions though... but my dad says they're more common in the north and maybe we go there next time.
"In Thailand, some people eat scorpion. And spider. It comes in a lollipop (stick)"
I don't know the name of everything we got that morning, but it was all pretty delicious!
There was one more market my dad wanted to show me - the floating market.
Many people live in and around the market, and instead of food stands selling things they just do it on boats and it's always moving!
They had animals, fruits, drinks, and they even cooked on the little boats!
"Dad, do they have toys here?"
I didn't find that many toys as we have back home in this market, but I got a pair of these great Mauy Thai fighter shorts that I'm going to wear to fight the bad guys! My dad says there's no bad guys here, but if there are I'm prepared.
The markets are different here, and my mom was very impressed with the local economy, and my dad was happy we're both loving Asia! And that's good, because next... we're going to India!
