We still had a few hours in Rome and my dad said there was one more place to see!
"G: What? Why did the plan change? I thought we were going to Portugal next!
D: We are, but we can visit another country first, a really small one. It's the smallest country in the world!
G: The smallest? Show me."
Once we got to the walls of the Vatican it was still not clear to me how this was going to work. How could we just walk into a country like that? What about taking a flight or a car?
"Why is there a country inside a country?
My dad explained to me how this country came to be, and I even saw it on the map.
We walked around for a while and even saw the Pontifical Swiss Guard - they protect the Pope.
Turns out, the Pope was also going to fly to Portugal soon. Maybe he was also going to pack now, like us...
"Mom, come, we're going to Portugal to see grandpa and grandma!"
